Mindfulness for Recovery [INFOGRAPHIC]

In this blog post, we share an infographic about mindfulness meditation. At ADT Healthcare, we are known for writing content about addiction treatment. Many of you may be unaware that mindfulness meditation is a popular form of addiction treatment that’s advocated by many drug and alcohol rehab clinics.

Mindfulness is about living in the present moment. This allows people affected by addiction to control and neutralise out psychological cravings and ‘addiction triggers”.

Mindfulness isn’t about ignoring negative emotions. Instead, it’s about experiencing these emotions from an objective standpoint. When negative emotions arise, mindfulness allows you to experience these emotions from a detached position. Mindfulness will allow you to recognise these emotions as they rise into and out of your perception.

We share this infographic because it allows our readers to visually discover the many benefits linked to mindfulness practice.

This infographic explains the origins of mindfulness as a Buddhist tradition. The infographic then explains how mindfulness is implemented in the ‘how it works’ section.

For instance, the infographic states that mindfulness involves six neuropsychological processes that lead to a person’s state of self-awareness.

These processes include:

  1. Non-attachment & decentring (letting go of the ego)
  2. Attention regulation
  3. Extinction & reconsolidation
  4. Emotion regulation
  5. Intention & motivation (to achieve mindfulness)
  6. Pro-social behaviour (a sense of empathy for others)

The infographic then lists many of the benefits that are derived from mindfulness practice. These benefits include:

  1. Fights PTSD
  2. Improves academic performance
  3. Helps regulate emotions
  4. Fights depression
  5. Fights anxiety
  6. Fights memory loss

Without further ado, here’s the infographic:
